A concept that is beginning to gather more momentum among some mainstream spiritual leaders is the rating or ranking of consciousness. It is a fair assumption to say that some individuals and even societies are more spiritually progressed than others. This concept is the cornerstone of Mindcast thinking. Levels of consciousness equate to levels of spiritual awareness -- the two are synonymous. Levels and stages are also terms used interchangeably.

AltitudeKen Wilber expresses this concept with a rating he calls Altitude. Relying on a comprehensive survey of all great thinkers of the past, Wilber rates both individuals and societies according to their Altitude. These also can be thought of as stages of development. He uses a colour-coding scheme that is similar to the colour stages of a rainbow. Red most primitive, violet is most advanced. Life stages also prevalent in theory in that we naturally grow wiser as we grow older, usually jump a stage at 7- year intervals.
Stages vs. StatesStages vs. States Interestingly, Wilber makes the distinction between a stage and a state. Stages being the average or normal operating level of an individual or society, states being on a moment by moment basis. The states of individuals and societies can vary up and down through all the altitude levels, but again they seem to have their steady state at the 'stage' they happen to be at. Interpretation of the experiences of various states is a function of the stage the individual or society happen to be at.
Relationship between Stages and StatesStates and stages, however, are deeply interrelated: research has shown that continued development through stages can help convert passing states into permanent traits.
Scale of ConsciousnessRather than stages and states, Hawkins rates everything according to the scale. Hawkins' scale, which he claims is logarithmic, goes from 0 - 1000. Below 200 is non- life promoting and negative. 200 and above is life promoting and such entities leave positive impressions on the field of consciousness.
Calibration TechniqueThe rating is determined via kinesiology testing, which uses muscle responsiveness to a 'truthful' statement. Level of calibration of any person, entity or idea is determined by conducting a series of truth/non-truth statements about the numeric level of the subject of interest.
EM FieldsValerie Hunt's research can also be indirectly as a basis for rating and ranking levels of consciousness. Her research uses electromagnetic (EM) field measurement devices to directly measure the frequencies and amplitudes of the EM fields for various states of her subjects.
EM Field - qualityDr. Hunt does not go so far as to say that one absolute frequency is better than others, as we all experience various frequencies depending on our moods. However, there are some individuals who appear to have better flows/less impedance in their EM emissions. That, and she comments that more healthy individuals have good flow amounts across the spectrum of all the expected frequencies.
